The Little Mermaid opened on Broadway, Thursday night to rave reviews for it's staging and our favorite mermaid. All of your favorite characters glide around "under the sea" with wheels on the backs of their shoes. Director Francesca Zambello, set designer George Tsypin along with costume designer Tatiana Noginova have created a beautiful spectacle. Ariel, played by Sierra Boggess has been not only given kudos for her singing and comedic skills but special notice has been made of her managing her apparently unwieldy costume. Can you imagine roller skating with with a giant fin in a bikini? I shudder to think...New songs have been added by original composer Alan Menkin with lyricist Glenn Slater filing in for Howard Ashman who passed away in 1991. Overall, reviews are positive and it looks like this is Disney's third hit on the Great White Way.
18,000 runners are descending on the World this weekend for the Disney Marathon, Half Marathon and Goofy Challenge. Goofy Challenge you ask? This race consists of running the 13.1 mile half challenge on Saturday and then getting up for the 6 am start of the full marathon
(26.2 miles) on Sunday. I'm tired just typing this. I hope all the runners have a great and safe race. Those doing it for charity get a special extra bit of pixie dust!
