Diznews: 8.20.08 - Tropical Storm Fay and DisFriends To Disband

Tropical Storm Fay Edition

As I am writing this it is after midnight in Florida and the eye of the storm has passed to the southeast of Orlando. Residents are still under a Tornado warning until 1 am and there are high winds and flooding concerns. According to the Orlando Sentinel only Sea World and Aquatica closed early on Tuesday. From everything I have read, the storm has been relatively mild with some storm damage and a few injuries to intrepid surfers.

DisFriends to Disband

DisFriends, the Disney online social networking site, announced today that it will be disbanding as of October first. The owner of this neat little site stated that it has become to difficult to continue to run it, siting personal reasons and difficulty with the their ISP. I hope that people might offer suggestions of great online communities for people to join. If you have a site that you would like to recommend to others in the group please drop me a line and I’ll post your comments.

Love the DPN

The Disney Podcast Network - Interested in Disney Podcasts? This collective is the largest on the
net. Some of my favorites are part of this network. Westfest is their yearly gathering of Disney folk but the real treasure here is the podcasts. Both audio and video casts there is something for
everyone here.

Disney to produce Japanese Lilo and Stitch, Safety plussed at Primeval Whirl and Disney Dan Dies

Disney announced this morning that they are teaming up with Japanese animation company Madhouse, Ltd. The show will be based on the movie and distributed via satellite and cable television in Japan.

The AP is reporting that new safety features have been added to Primeval Whirl after a cast member was fatally injured operating the ride in November. Sensor mats have been installed so that if a cast member is in the restricted area the ride will shut down. Load and unload zones will also be more clearly marked.

We've lost a very special member of our community, Disney Dan of the Dream Come True fund has passed away. Disney Dan was a life long truck driver who retired from the profession in the early 90s. He teamed up with fellow Weymouth Elk, George Soule. Together they raised funds to send over 100 terminally or severely ill children to Disney World through the Give Kids the World Foundation. His obituary appears here.
