DizNews: Ed Catmull, DreamWorks Deal, Downtown Disneyland Closings and DVC Points Reallocation

Ed Catmull Receives Lifetime Achievement Oscar

Ed Catmull, President of Walt Disney and Pixar Animation Studios, received a standing ovation and Oscar for Lifetime Achievement this past Saturday. Catmull received this award for his work in computer animation.

Disney and DreamWorks Made a Deal

Bob Iger announced today that Disney and Dreamworks have agreed to a long term distribution deal where Disney will distribute all live action films made by the studio. Disney will distribute six films per year starting in 2010. No word as to how long the “long term” deal is actually to last.

Closings at Downtown Disney Disneyland

Downtown Disney’s Disneyland shopping district is going to have to get some new stores as many of the current old standbys are closing. Here’s a list:
Libby Lu - closed
Department 56 - closed
Starabillas - closed
Illuminations - closing April 30th
Quicksilvers

DVC Points Reallocation

In a reversal of it’s previous points distribution, Disney’s DVC is reallocating points (the number of DVC points one must “spend” to stay in a DVC resort) to encourage guests to stay at their DVC resort over the weekend. Not being a DVC member, I’m not going to try to explain something I don’t really understand but DVCnews.com has a great points chart page.
