World Wide Disney - The End of an Era: Astroland Closes

This is a bit of a personal indulgence as it has nothing to do with Disney but as a former New Yorker and lover of all theme parks, a sad thing happened yesterday: Astroland, at Coney Island closed it’s doors forever. Reportedly it will be raised to build condos. The marvelous and historic Wonder Wheel (inspiration for Disney's California Adventure's Sun/Mickey Wheel) and wooden super coaster Cyclone will remain in operation. While this is not strictly Disney news: former Coney Island Parks: Dreamland, Luna Park, and Steeplechase Park not only started much of America’s love of theme parks but also developed some of the earliest rides which we see today as log flumes, coasters and dark rides. Here is a nice video that is on ScreamScape.com of the park.
